Mobile Unit Snapshot: MU-11 53’ 3G Single Expando Production
The MU-11 53’ 3G Single Expando Production Truck is the latest innovation in mobile production technology, setting a new standard for large-scale UHD and HDR event coverage. Operated by TNDV, a division of Live Media Group, MU-11 is engineered to deliver unparalleled flexibility, advanced technical capabilities, and future-proof infrastructure for the most demanding live events, broadcasts, and studio-grade recordings. Whether it’s a major sports broadcast, a globally streamed concert, or a complex corporate production, MU-11 is built to meet the challenge.
Measuring 57 feet in length and stretching to a full 78 feet when connected to its tractor, MU-11 is a true heavyweight at 80,000 pounds. Once expanded, it offers an interior width of 13.5 feet, providing a spacious, comfortable working environment for production and engineering teams. The expando section, measuring 49 feet long and 5 feet wide, creates a versatile command center capable of supporting sophisticated workflows that demand both power and precision.
At the heart of MU-11’s production capabilities is a Grass Valley K-Frame 3G Switcher, paired with a Kayenne 4-stripe, 35-button panel. With 7 mix effects, 96 inputs, 48 outputs, FlexiKey layering, Double Take functionality, advanced chroma keying, and a full-featured image store with motion graphics, the switcher enables seamless management of even the most intricate live productions. Supporting the video operations is a robust replay and playback ecosystem anchored by three EVS XTVia 12-channel LSM servers, a 6-channel EVS XSVia Spotbox, and a 10G-capable EVS X-file3 system, all networked through an EVS Via Xhub. With wiring for up to 70 channels of EVS, MU-11 ensures that no critical moment is ever missed.
Routing and signal distribution are equally impressive. MU-11 houses an Evertz EQX 3G Video Router with a massive 500×722 matrix, featuring 96×96 channels of embedded and de-embedded audio and 32×32 fiber connectivity for external I/O needs. The truck also integrates an Evertz EMR Audio Router with 1856×1600 MADI, 192×192 AES, and 288×288 analog audio routing, complemented by 70 frame syncs across its systems, including both For-A HDR frame synchronizers and EVS Neuron HDR units with custom LUT and color correction capabilities. For multiviewing, MU-11 supports up to 416 customizable windows, ensuring that directors and producers have complete situational awareness across all feeds.
Camera acquisition is handled by an elite fleet of twelve Sony HDC3500 UHD-HDR cameras, paired with Sony HDLA1505 large lens adapters and a powerful lens package that includes long-throw Fujinon 107x, 99x, and 72x field lenses, along with a versatile selection of wide-angle and hybrid lenses. Vinten Vector 750 and Cartoni Focus 22 pan heads provide robust camera support, and the truck is wired to support up to 24 camera control units, giving productions the scalability they need for events of any size.
On the audio side, MU-11 is equipped with a Calrec Apollo Digital Surround Sound Console, boasting 144 faders across 12 dual-layer banks and offering 128×128 analog I/O, 192×192 mono AES I/O, and 512×512 MADI I/O. Precision loudness monitoring is handled by a Daysequerra ILM 8 meter, ensuring broadcast audio meets all loudness compliance requirements and delivers a consistent, polished sound to audiences.
Communication across the production team is vital, and MU-11 is outfitted with a 240×240 RTS Adam Matrix Intercom system that integrates 64 OMNEO channels, 16 RVON IP channels, 64 MADI channels, and 12 powered partyline and IFB channels. Multiple RTS belt packs, IFB belt packs, and Beyer DT108 and DT109 headsets are deployed throughout the unit, ensuring clear and reliable communication for both technical staff and talent.
Supporting the AV needs of complex productions, MU-11 carries an extensive inventory of announcer headsets, studio boxes, handheld microphones, shotgun microphones, stereo microphones, SDI monitors, and portable LED lighting kits. Cable infrastructure is equally comprehensive, with 7000 feet of SMPTE fiber, 3800 feet of DT12 audio mults, thousands of feet of coaxial cable, TAC fiber runs, and a variety of audio snakes, ensuring that connectivity needs are never a limitation.
What truly sets MU-11 apart is its ability to combine traditional broadcast engineering with next-generation UHD, HDR, and hybrid IP/SDI workflows. With native 3G switching, 70 channels of EVS replay, massive routing capacity, and a communications network built for modern remote operations, MU-11 is built to deliver flawless, broadcast-quality productions on a massive scale. From major sports championships and high-profile music awards shows to multi-platform live streams and corporate global broadcasts, MU-11 enables teams to produce stunning, reliable content that captivates audiences and meets the highest standards of production excellence.
